New Year, a 2018 Chinese New Year slot from JDB Gaming, spreads 50 fixed paylines over a grid of five reels and four rows. Its free spins round builds up extra wilds as it goes, and the game carries a 96.37% RTP with high volatility.
Game mechanics
New Year plays out on a 5-reel, 4-row grid with 50 fixed paylines, and wins pay left to right when matching symbols line up across those lines. Wild and scatter symbols are part of the paytable, with the wilds substituting to help complete winning combinations.
The main feature is a free spins round: landing 3 bonus symbols on reels 1, 2 and 3 awards 10 free spins. During those free spins an extra wild symbol is added to reels 2, 3, 4 or 5 for the next spin, and the round can be retriggered once, with spins 11-20 keeping the same wild count reached on spin 10.
Features
- Free Spins Bonus. Landing 3 bonus symbols on reels 1, 2 and 3 triggers the feature and awards 10 free spins.
- Extra Wilds in Free Spins. During the free spins an extra wild symbol is added to reels 2, 3, 4 or 5 for the next spin, building up more wilds as the round goes on.
- Retrigger. The free spins round can be retriggered once, and spins 11-20 keep the same wild count reached on spin 10.
- Wild & Scatter Symbols. Wild symbols substitute to help form wins, while the bonus/scatter symbols are what activate the free spins feature.
- 50 Paylines on a 5x4 Grid. The Chinese New Year themed base game runs on a 5-reel, 4-row layout with 50 fixed paylines paying left to right.
How to play the free demo
- Read each spin of the New Year demo left to right along the 50 fixed paylines on its five reels and four rows.
- Look at reels 1, 2 and 3 after each spin, because three bonus symbols there award 10 free spins.
- Once the free spins begin, follow the wilds added to reels 2, 3, 4 or 5, as a retrigger carries the count from spin 10 into spins 11-20.
Why try the New Year demo
Three bonus symbols on reels 1, 2 and 3 are the trigger to watch for, and the demo shows how long that can take on a high-volatility game. Inside the free spins, extra wilds build up on reels 2 to 5, and a single retrigger carries that wild count into spins 11-20.
